Link O Rama: Get Links From Blog Carnivals
I’ve got this question from a reader:
- Step 1: open a free account with BlogCarnival
- Step 2: browse the list of blog carnivals and spot the ones which match the topic of the post you wish to submit. This is very important. I happen to run a blog carnival about cats and I get a lot of submissions about how to make money online, or where to get my next loan from. I never publish articles which don’t match my topic, and I bet no other carnival host does.
- Step 3: click on the desired carnival link. You’ll be taken to a detailed carnival description, where you’ll also find a submission button:
Could you explain me, please, what is a Blog Carnival and why would it be good for me to participate? I’ve heard they are good for blogs, but I don’t know how to participate.
Just for your amusement, before we start:
Doing a keywords research in order to choose a title for this post, one of the most searched strings which matched my topic was link-o-rama. Almost nobody is searching for blog carnivals, so naming my post just “What are blog carnivals” wouldn’t have brought us too much organic traffic (coming from search engines).
So, I decided for link-o-rama plus something about blog carnivals, and I did a search on Google to see how many competitors are there for this “link o rama”. This is what I found (if site no 1 is the one that all those “link o rama” searchers are looking for, they’ll be disappointed when they will land on this blog here):

What Are Blog Carnivals
Blog Carnivals are nothing else than usual blog posts (technically speaking), but their content is generated by participants who submit their articles to the blog carnival host.
As it would be very hard to discover those blog carnival hosts, amongst the millions of blogs out there, somebody was smart enough to offer us a tool for finding and managing our blog carnivals. This tool is BlogCarnival.com, and it includes a list of all blog carnivals running, with their descriptions, and with the date when the next edition will be published, plus a submission form which enables bloggers to submit their posts to any of the carnivals on this list.
How To Participate To A Blog Carnival

Step 4: click on the button and fill in the submission form:

- Permalink URL: this is the permanent link to your post. You shouldn’t submit your blog’s front page, even if it includes your article. As you publish new posts, the one you want to send to the carnival won’t be on the front page anymore. You need to submit its permanent link. If you don’t know how to do it, there’s an explanation on BlogCarnival.com’s submission page (see the first bullet in the above picture)
After you paste the permalink in the box, wait for a few seconds, and you’ll see that the name of your post will appear by itself in the form, and also your name and email address. - Remarks: be careful what you write in here. These remarks will be published in the carnival, and if the host is not very careful, you may end up saying what you’d never want to make public.
After checking again the info, you fill in the captcha (the security code), click on Submit and you’re done.

Benefits Of Blog Carnival Submissions
- Back links to your blog: the more links pointing to your blog, the bigger its authority will be, as search engines perceive it. Some carnivals are hosted on blogs which have a good PR, so your PR will improve too, without you needing to buy links. And even if they are new and they don’t have PR, think that one day they will. And your link will be there.
- Visitors: at least the host of the carnival will visit your blog, in order to see if your submission fits the topic. If the host blog is a high traffic one, and if your title is catchy, you may end up with a nice surprise in traffic increase. I remember once I’ve submitted a post to a blog which had a very high level of traffic (I was new to blogging at that time and I had no idea where to check traffic levels). I was surprised to see that I had about 500 visitors from that blog carnival.
Now that you saw how easy it is, I want to see all of you submitting me your best posts to the next edition of Resource For Bloggers Carnival, which will be published on March 13th.

Thank you, Barbara. For participating to blog carnivals you only need to find maximum one hour per week, as they are usually weekly, so you don’t have to submit every day.
